Español: Musa paradisiaca. El nombre de plátano, banana, banano, cambur, topocho o guineo agrupa a un gran número de plantas herbáceas del género Musa, tanto híbridos obtenidos horticulturalmente a partir de las especies silvestres del género Musa acuminata y Musa balbisiana como cultivares genéticamente puros de estas especies. Clasificado originalmente por Linnaeus como Musa paradisiaca en 1753, la especie tipo del género Musa, estudios posteriores han llevado a la conclusión de que la compleja taxonomía del género incluye numerosos híbridos, de variada composición genética, y se ha desarrollado un sistema estrictamente sui generis de clasificación para dar cuenta de esta variación.
