This template employs some extremely complicated and esoteric features of template syntax. Please do not attempt to alter it unless you are certain that you understand the setup and are prepared to repair any consequent collateral damage if the results are unexpected. This template is used to cite sources in Wikipedia, specifically, visual media sources. Please use Template:Cite episode to cite episodes of television and radio programs.

Copy one of these three blank versions to use. Note that all fields must be lowercase, and remember to use the "|" (pipe) character between each field. Please delete any unused fields to avoid clutter in the edit window.

Nested fields either rely on their parent fields, or replace them:

  • parent
    • child — may be used with parent (and is ignored if parent is not used)

  • people: May be anyone associated with the film. Add role in parentheses (Producer, Director, Actor, etc).
  • year: Year of the first release or airing of the production.
    • date: Day and/or month of the first release or airing of the production, formatted as either "Month Day" (May 1) or just "Month" (December). Should not be wikilinked.
  • title: Title of the production. This is the only required field. May wikilink to an article rather than provide a URL.
    • url: Provides a link to either the production's website or to its entry at IMDB.
    • format: File format of the URL. For example, "mov" or "avi".
    • medium: Type of production being sourced. Please use one of the following if applicable: Motion picture, Television production, Documentary, Videotape, DVD.
  • publisher: Name of the individual or group releasing the production. For example, "Paramount Pictures" or "Disney".
    • location: Physical location of the publisher, formatted as either "City, State" or "City, Country". For example, "New York, NY" or "London, England".
  • accessdate: Full date when url was accessed, in ISO 8601 YYYY-MM-DD format, eg. 2006-02-17 (February 17, 2006). Required when url field is used. Must not be wikilinked.
    • OR: accessyear: Year of access, and accessmonth: Name of the month of access. If you also have the day, use accessdate instead. Must not be wikilinked.
  • time: Roughly what time, if accessable, a scene occurs at in a production. Useful for citing specific scenes.
