Crete is the greatest of the Greek islands.

Greatest cities are Heraklion/Iraklion, Chania and Rethymnon. About 600,000 people live on Crete. Crete has two international airports in Heraklion and Chania. Capital of the island is Heraklion.

On Crete the Minoian Culture started in the 15th century before Christ. The palace of Knossos is well-known and is a labyrinth. An ancient city, Phaistos, is another important place for archeology, there they found a disk with a new kind of letters, called Linear A.

Crete lives on tourism industry and on agriculture.
