Wikipedia:Edit summary
From the Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can change
When you edit a page, there is a small box with the words "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:
You can write up to 200 characters there. These words will show up on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article.
It is always good to write something in this box. This lets people know what you have changed. You can also say why you changed something.
Some people use abbreviations in their edit summary. There is a list of abbreviations used at edit summary legend.
Please see MediaWiki User's Guide: Edit summary for full information on edit summaries.
