Maria Skłodowska-Curie (November 7, 1867 – July 4, 1934),was a Polish-French physicist and chemist. The name given to her at birth was Maria Skłodowska but she was known in France where she lived for most of her life as Marie Curie or Madame Curie. She was born in Warsaw in Poland. She lived there until she was 24 years old. She then moved to Paris.
She married Pierre Curie, and worked with him. The first Nobel prize she won was shared with Pierre. She made many new discoveries to do with radioactivity. She was the first person to win two Nobel Prizes and still is the only person to win two Nobel prizes for different sciences. She was the first female professor at the Sorbonne.
She is well known because she discovered and found out many important facts about Radium and Polonium (Radium and Polonium are radioactive elements).
