Wikipedia:No personal attacks
From the Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can change
Do not make personal attacks anywhere in Wikipedia. On talk pages, comment on content - what the article is about, or changes to it, not on the editor. Personal attacks will not help you make a point; they hurt the Wikipedia community, and scare users from helping to create a good encyclopedia.
Examples of personal attacks include:
- Racial, sexual, homophobic, ageist, religious, political, ethnic, or other epithets (such as against people with disabilities) directed against another contributor. Disagreement over what makes up a religion, race, sexual preference, or ethnicity is not an accepted excuse.
- Using someone's background to try to push aside their views or say they are wrong — regardless of whether these views are mainstream or not.
- Linking to attacks, harassment, or other material on another site, for the purpose of attacking another editor.
- Threats, including: -
-
- Threats of legal action
- Threats of violence or other off-wiki action (usually death threats)
- Threats of vandalism to userpages or talk pages.
- Threats or actions that deliberately make other Wikipedia editors unsafe because of political, religious or other persecution by any government, their employer or others.
These are not the only examples, or more than one example may fit. Insulting an editor is a personal attack regardless of how it is done. When in doubt, comment only on the article's content, without mentioning the editor whose changes you disagree with.
