Talk:Peasant
From the Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can change
I removed the following statement: "After the Black Death the peasants’ social level became better, though many of them died, because of the conflict in medieval [Europe] the peasants that were fortunate enough to survive became a large political and economic power" because it is both unverified and false. Though it's true that peasant life did become somewhat better, the common people did not become "a large political and economic power" until later on after the establishment of the United States.--TBCΦtalk? 23:52, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
- This whole article is unverified. Please look up what the definition is. It comes from French paysanne meaning simply "country dweller" (pays = country) and originally it meant someone who doesn't live in a town, lives in the country where most people had to do farm work to support themself. Nowadays it has also got a meaning of "poor" in many peoples minds. Blockinblox 01:37, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
