Wikipedia:Talk Pages

From the Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can change

On Wikipedia, editors use pages called talk pages to talk to each other and discuss what we should do here on Wikipedia. There are two main types of talk pages: Article Talk and User Talk.

Contents

[change] How they work:

When you stumble across a talk page, don't freak out! Here are some good tips for you:

  • Sign your posts. This is important! If we don't know who typed something,

then how would we know? The edit history is one thing, but that takes really long.

  • Discuss what's important. Don't talk about what level you got in a (insert name here) game. That is considered vandalism, and you could get blocked (or even worse!). Focus on the topic, and you'll be fine.
  • Be nice. Remember, we're humans! We do make mistakes. So if someone does something wrong, correct them in a friendly manner. Example: User blahblahblah went to a talk page and told a person, "Go to the Main Page and that will tell you what article to go to." You should say, "I'm sorry, but the Search button is the place you want to go." Please don't say, "YOU IMBECILE! YOU USE THE SEARCH BUTTON!" That is bad....

[change] User Talk Pages

These pages are for talking with other members. Everyone has one! You don't have to sign up to have a talk page! It's recommended though, because without signing up, other people don't trust you as much.

[change] Article Talk

Like User Talk, every article has one, too! These are for discussing what to do with an article, or questions about the article, stuff like that.
