TV.com summary |
Torchwood is a British television show. It is shown on BBC 3 - a TV channel in Britain which a person needs freeview, cable or satellite to watch. The show is about a group of people who manage Earth's contact with aliens.
The show is a spin off of Doctor Who. It stars John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness. He played the same character in series one of the current Doctor Who (2005). It also stars Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper a policewoman who becomes involved with the group. The other members of the group are Burn Gorman as Owen Harper the team doctor, Naoko Mori as Toshiko Sato the person in charge of using the team computers, and Gareth David-Lloyd as Ianto Jones a person who helps out in other ways.
The series is set in Cardiff, Glamorgan, Wales. It takes place after Doctor Who series two. This means it starts in 2007 and takes place in early 2008 ahead of when it is actually shown. It follows the Wales section of a secret group called the Torchwood Institute. The Torchwood Institute examines things that aliens cause to happen on Earth. They also collect alien equipment to use.
Because the show is set in and around Cardiff, many of the local attractions, for example, the Millennium Center and Cardiff Bay are shown in the series. Country settings around Glamorgan are also used many times in the series.
The programme is aimed at adults and older teenagers.
