Vatyli is a large village in the center of the Mesaoria plain in Cyprus. The village has been occupied by turkish troops since the second Turkish invasion that started on August 14, 1974. Before the Turkish invasion, its 1700 Greek Cypriots and 800 Turkish Cypriots lived side by side in their communities. A large number of Turkish settlers were brought in to settle the houses left behind by the Greek Cypriots who since then have not been allowed to return.
