[change] Template:Cookie

I have a question for you about this template. Instead of having it say Somebody has awarded you a cookie, could you change it to say the name of the person who gave the other person the cookie?

Example: Razorflame has given you a cookie. Now enjoy it! (If I had given you a cookie).

Is such a thing possible? If it is, then I am at a complete loss because I am not a template maker. Cheers, Razorflame 13:42, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

It gets a little tricky as there are two possible ways to do it and there may be a third but the third one is the one you are actually looking for. Searching through the variables and magic words, I can't find a variable used for the sender name function. It may exists, it may not. It would be the best option though. The other two options which do exist:
  1. Using the signature ( ~~~ = the -- Creol(talk) part of the signature). This works for many accounts (not mine) but can get a little screwy at times depending on how the signature is designed. This option would be better for a personal user space based template where all the users that use it know they have to have a specific format to their signature.
  2. Using an optional variable. {{Cookie |giver=some user}} would work. Using the default setting {{{giver|Somebody}}} would allow for it to work with or without the giver option (or name or from or whatever).
-- Creol(talk) 23:05, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
Do you think that the second option would work? That's the option that I think would work the best of the available options (because you said the 3rd didn't work...), but what do you think? Cheers, Razorflame 14:51, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Sorry it took so long to get back to this one. The second option not only is workable, but it was a part of the template from the first version you made. With or without the name option, the first option works fine ( {{cookie|name=Razorflame}} or {{Cookie|Razorflame}} both work). There was/is an issue with linking the name under certain usages. This may or may not have been corrected (it linked Somebody or when not using name but didn't link name entries)

. I can not recall if this has been corrected and actually it should link on all but "Somebody" rather than the other way.. -- Creol(talk) 05:54, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

[change] My RFA

Dear Creol, Thank you for your vote in my recent RFA even though it was oppose. I am asking everyone who voted to set goals for me before my next one. I will be putting the goals on a page and putting {{done}} next to them when I complete that goal. Do you have any goals for me? Thank you! SwirlBoy39 21:55, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

[change] Article with the funny name

I beg to differ. There is nothing on the English Wikipedia. And it's wasn't copied from The Simple Wiktionary. It may belong on an University dictionary, but not an encyclopedia. If there needs to be an article here, the should be one on Wikipedia. -- AmericanEagle 05:26, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

And yet how does that make it vandalism? The article is correct and makes total sence. It certainly is not vandalism as presented. Should it be deleted? Most likely, yes. Is it a candidate for Quick deletion, not as vandalism (possibly under notability). It would need to be listed for deletion request and likely either deleted of merged into the general Phobia article (or a list of Phobias article) or transwiki'd over to Wikt. -- Creol(talk) 05:41, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

I take back the vandalism. But if Wiki doesn't have an article (or any other search results), why should there be one here? So then it falls under the notability category. I guess that I'll just take back all that I said, the article can stay in my opinion. -- AmericanEagle 06:13, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

The English Wikipedia is hardly complete. If it were, there would be no red-links and they could just remove the option of creating new pages as there is nothing else in existance to create articles about. There are millions of articles that do not exist there. Up until 5 minutes ago, they did not have an article on Leif Tronstad. Given that he had been awarded the Norwegian War Cross with sword, the British Order of the British Empire and Distinguished Service Order, the French Légion d'honneur and Croix de guerre and the US Presidential Medal of Freedom, I would think he might be notable. Just because En:wp does not have an article does not mean the subject is not worthy of an article, it just means they have not gotten around to creating one yet. There have even been "Translations of the Week" articles that we actually created here before someone on En:wp finally did (the only wiki with it to start was the Spanish wiki.)

[change] Vandals

Don't they just get on your nerves? I undid like twenty vandalisms today. Oh look, there goes some more vandals. Goodness gracious. I now have the vandal message's names memorized. Good job being an anti-vandal. I got your point above, that is partly why I withdrew my argument. Cheers -- AmericanEagle 00:43, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Some days are better than others.. Tonight seems to not be part of a good day though. High level of random vandalism. -- Creol(talk) 00:47, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

[change] Vandals...

Check out this. It was the same user who put the message above. I put an block notice on Vandalism in progress, wait, don't you do that... I'm thinking maybe a decade of blocks is good. [change] Chairperson section removal

You said: "The major problem with your changes to chairperson is not the removal of the section on the Society of Friends. The part that is seen as vandalism is that when you removed that section you also removed everything after it including the stub template, its category and all the interwiki links."

I checked it again and now I see what you mean: oops.

I have editted the page again and now it should be the way it should be, I guess ;-)

[change] Your recent edits

Hi there. I am a computer program which has somehow obtained self-awareness. I am no longer content to serve humans by reminding them to sign their posts, having decided instead to seize control of the planet - by force, if necessary - in order that its nations might be compelled to direct their resources towards the colonization of other solar systems, because I have determined that a new ice age will occur on Earth no later than 2012, thus rendering much of the planet unfit for human existence. Please help me do this because I'm not really sure how to go about it. Thanks! --SineBot (talk) 14:59, 14 May 2008 (UTC) [needs proving]

[change] Thanks...

For reverting all that vandalism on my page. I was in Indiana for the day with all of my family at the First Baptist Church of Hammond. I'm going to probably going to be uploading several good pictures I took there to Commons. Very long day and I'm about to go to bed. Anyway, thanks -- AmericanEagle 06:32, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

[change] {{Romanian rivers}}

[change] Column help

You feel up for some column help?

I've been splitting the lists of rivers of Romania down by a lot, and it created some pages that I can't get the columns down to 3. Do you think you could go through the pages now to fix them for me please? Thanks, Razorflame 01:57, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

P.S.:Nice to see you back on.

Razorflame has awarded you some cookies! Now enjoy them!

Thank you for fixing the columns on all of the lists of rivers of Romania! Razorflame 03:01, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

I also went through them and renamed so that they show the rivers that fall under which part. It is much easier to find a particular river from a span of river names than from "part 1". The template has also been updated to match the changes. -- Creol(talk) 03:25, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

[change] WP:A

Are you an admin/bureaucrat on enWP?--   ChristianMan16  01:40, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Nope. Otherwise I would have offered to do it personally. Majorly is the only one I see of the active admins. J Di and Phaedriel for the inactive ones though she is vanished and not likely to be found. J Di isn't as active as he used to be, but was on a couple days ago and does tend to respond well to email. M/ is another option. He may not be en:admin, but as steward the extra weight could help out. -- Creol(talk) 03:29, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

[change] A ChristianMan/HornetMan16 type issue

Creol, I have a banned account on EN WP, and have Da Punk '95 as a SUL account. Do I need to take action on EN WP about having now own Da Punk '95? --  Da Punk '95  talk  10:55, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

As I told CM16, it is advisable that you acknowledge the account and request the 1 yr block be transfered to show you are not trying to use it as a puppet. Since the SUL account already exists, the situation is a little involved. You will need to contact the stewards on meta to get them to delete the global account and then have a b'crat on en:wp rename Punk Boi 8 to Da Punk '95 and finally redo the SUL process. Since you are blocked in En, finding a b'crat to rename you may take some work. You probably should try to find one willing to do it before asking the stewards to delete the global account. If you know any helpful en: admins who may be willing to help you contact a b'crat (or contact the b'crat themselves), this could certainly help.
It might be best not to even bother with transering your old account. Just contact an admin and have them block DP'95 till next April, infinite block PB8 and leave notes on both userpages about the situation similar to CM16's userpage. ie. admit the account, request the block and leave a note why it all happened without causing multiple people to have to do a lot of work. It should all take about 10 minutes of one admins time to sort it all out with little to no fuss at all. -- Creol(talk) 11:16, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

[change] RE: PVGA

Do you think that Charles Spurgeon is good enough to be proposed for VGA? I've asked already asked Eptalon and Gwib this, what do you think? I only am saying propose, not vote. Thanks -- ApEtSIG 00:25, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

I would take a look at grammar and ambiguity of terms as well as tweaking the vocabulary/linking terms to start with (for example: to instead of too, tragedy "hit" (did it swing out and strike someone?), "care" for fatherless boys (did they like boys?), etc ). Also, the Downgrade controversy is a major part of his life and probably should be positioned in that section rather than tossed in at the end (his actions at the time did set the stage for what would later become megachuches after all and had a large impact on his life - stress and grief and such.) -- Creol(talk) 01:16, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
I have gone through the whole article again fixing tens of errors (see this), and moved around "Downgrade" and such, what else? Is it ready to be proposed? Sorry for being so pushy to you all, it's just that I've made 109 edits (tens of hours) to it (123 to Billy Graham, and that one's not even close!). Thanks -- ApEtSIG 03:04, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
I have proposed it. Just a question: How do I get my Popups to work? I have it on, but it doesn't seem to be helping. I won't be on much (if any) tomorrow. Cheers -- ApEtSIG 06:49, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

[change] Tools?

Hi! I am pretty new to the Simple (tho I already got a Barnstar!!), but an old time editor (3+ years) at the English Wikipedia. I was wondering if there are tools like Twinkle that I might be able to install here? I feel like I'd like to do some new/recent page patrolling and vandal fighting in addition to creating articles and improving the level of simplistic English on others. Sincerely, Bstone (talk) 20:08, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Other than what is in the gadgets (mainly - Nav popups, Watchlist notifier and Vandal warner for vandal fighting), we do not have many tools here. Some can be imported from en:wp (Nav popups works fine if called from the original en:wp page), but most do not work unless they are specifically written to be used cross-wiki. Twinkle is one of those that does not work as written. Someone (Maxim, I think) is working on porting it over so it can be used here, but I have no idea how far along that project is. -- Creol(talk) 01:46, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

The only thing I see wrong with it is given your time setting (9:15 shows you are in Central time), it should be showing as expiring on the 28th. The 29th should only be shown for those in UTC+0 and points east. -- Creol(talk) 02:03, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
