From the Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can change

Hello, JurgenG, and welcome to the Simple English Wikipedia! I hope you will be happy helping here. You should begin by reading these pages: Wikipedia:Useful, Help:Contents, Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines, and how to write Simple English articles. If you want some ideas of which pages to work on, read Wikipedia:Requested articles or the list of wanted pages.

Even though it is a good idea to research an article (like looking at the discussion page) before making large changes, please be bold and try! Any changes you make that are not perfect can be fixed later. We are also working most on core articles and the most common topics until this Wikipedia grows.

If you want to ask a question or talk with other members, you can visit our version of the "village pump" at Wikipedia:Simple talk. Administrators on Wikipedia can also help you with more difficult problems. You can also ask me for help. The best way to do that is to leave a message on my talk page. You should always sign your messages on Talk pages by typing "~~~~" (four tildes) at the end of your words.

Good luck and happy editing! -Eptalon 07:08, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome!

I'm not entirely new to the Wikipedia-system but I mostly edit on the dutch and sometimes on the french pages. When I come here on simple it is mostly to edit the interlanguage links to the dutch pages. I prefer to let the editing on the english pages to the native english speakers :-) JurgenG 07:28, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

[change] Interwiki links

Hi Jurgen, how's it going? Just wanted to say that I've been chasing your edits and adding further interwiki links to the articles you've changed. I use the English Wikipedia's list of interwiki links as the basis and, while I'm there, I add the simple link before pasting the interwiki list over here at Simple Wikpedia. Just a thought if you'd like to add more iw links as you go! All the best, The Rambling Man (talk) 13:44, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi Rambling Man, usually I only put one IW on each page, the robots usually follow in a few days or weeks to add the rest of them. No use to do work a machine can do for you :-) JurgenG (talk) 13:50, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, fair enough! Keep up the good work. All the best, The Rambling Man (talk) 13:51, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Do you think you could use an edit summary when you add an interwikilink to a page? It helps other editors understand the changes you are making. A simple thing like +en is sufficient. Cheers, Razorflame 15:48, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Ok Razorflame will try not to forget. Trying to write a little script to make it a little fasterJurgenG (talk) 19:59, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Just wanted to add my own thanks and well done for the amount of iw en work you've done. I'm really impressed! Scanna (talk) 23:25, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Not really that hard work :-) Just checked them all from Special:WithoutInterwiki and with a smal script in Windows the changes are pretty fast. Now I try to keep up with the new pages JurgenG (talk) 05:59, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Not the biggest deal, but I noticed you added interwiki links that were already located on the page so in essence you duplicated them. Might want to build into your script to watch for that. -Djsasso (talk) 12:49, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Hi Djsasso, thanks for correcting that one. The script is not that automatic, the "operator" (ie me) still has to be awake. Guess I wasn't at that time :-) JurgenG (talk) 12:58, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Haha no worries, like I said it was not that big a deal. Just thought I would mention it. :) -Djsasso (talk) 15:08, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

[change] Barnstar!

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
For your hard work adding interwikis to pages.--  Lights  talk  11:27, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks Lights, don't think I deserve it yet :-) But this star sure encourages me to continue (time permitting of course) JurgenG (talk) 12:11, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

[change] Hundred Years' War

Thanks for catching the duplicate page! I've merged the information from Hundred Years War to Hundred Years' War as per the English Wikipedia. Cheers, Razorflame 14:08, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

[change] Barnstar!

American Eagle's Barnstar of Excellence
This is for you having over 95% of your edits to articles! --  AmericanEagle  16:27, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks American Eagle! This is not what most of us do it for but it is encouraging of course!

[change] Vandalism without an admin

Hello. I am a new user here at the Simple English Wikipedia. Although, I am a very experienced user on another wikipedia. Anyway, if there is no admin to look over WP:AIV, (in other words, no active admins to so AIV), when there is repeated vandalism, what do you do? Just revert away?-- RyanCross (talk) 08:27, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi RyanCross, when I see vandalism I revert it but if it keeps going on that's no use. Waiting for half an hour can help, it's no use to play hard to get with the vandals. Usually they leave if you don't pay any attention to them so I come back after a while and revert everything they've done. JurgenG (talk) 08:50, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
Ah, thanks. -- RyanCross (talk) 08:54, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

[change] Warning templates

I was going to create a vandalism warning template, but I just wanted someone's opinion on it. How about something like this, this, this, and [1]? Of course it will be simplified and copyedited, but better yet, it would be a warning template. Thoughts? -- Ryan†Cross (talk) 09:03, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

I didn't know they didn't exist here on Simple, I'm not really using them either because I am mostly making iw-links on new pages. But these look pretty good and not too harsh to start with (we don't want to scare the newbies away). Don't know if they really have to be simplified a lot, it's not because we're on Simple that we have to consider the users as being 'simple' :-) JurgenG (talk) 09:27, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. Do you think add that to this notice? I was suggested to add it there after I left you a message here. Thanks, Ryan†Cross (talk) 09:40, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
